community
We have a valuable community of partners and supporters to help us and our clients create compelling video:
Danielle Benzon
Owner, Inspired Coaching
As a voice and speaking coach, Danielle is passionate about creating space for authentic human communication and unlocking the hidden potential within each speaker.
UpperStory Films has teamed up with Inspired Coaching to bring you workshops on how to create your own business videos. Vibrant Videos will teach you everything you need to know from planning and conceptualizing your video, to scripting something succinct and powerful, to rehearsing in a way that feels natural. You will learn how to film so that you always look like a pro, even if you’re really in your living room!
British Columbia Professional Videographers Association
UpperStory Films founder Jennifer Shanse has been the President of the BCPVA since 2018. The diverse membership of the association includes Shawn Lam Video, one of Vancouver’s top live-streaming production companies; Lifetime Hertiage Films, a leading provider of digitization and film transfers; and Green Earth Films, run by DGC and CSC member John Banovich. Members are held to a Code of Ethics, and often call on or refer each other for their specializations. This association celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2020.
We have a full package of our own gear to work with, but if a project calls for something special, we have reliable suppliers:
Lorne Lapham
Owner, Lorne Lapham Sales and Rentals
Lorne Lapham has been a staple in Vancouver’s production scene for decades. He deals in rentals and sales of both new and used gear, but what really sets him apart is his boundless knowledge.
Lorne Lapham Sales & Rentals has evolved over the years as a Canadian Family business with many talented, professional staff who share the interest to offer friendly, knowledgeable service that will assist you to make informed choices. All have contributed the building blocks for LLSR’s solid and trusted reputation.
LLSR is one of our go-to places, for gear and advice!
Dylan Couper
Owner, GearBase Camera Rentals
Dylan’s got a great location in the heart of downtown – with loading bays! He’s also open weekends, and deals well with last minute requests. He’s known for being laid back, flexible, and particularly supportive of the independent film scene.
In his own words: “Before starting this company I worked as an indie video shooter and producer for about 16 years and rented gear from most of the other shops in town. I had some good experiences… and some bad experiences. Our shop is an ongoing experiment in how to create the opposite of the bad experiences and expand on the good experiences. Are we perfect? No… But every day behind the desk we do at least one thing that improves our services for our clients. We have no intention of being the biggest rental house in town… But damn we are going to fight to be the best…”
