About Us
Founder and Creative Director Jennifer Shanse has a degree in film and creative writing from UBC and is a Past President of the BC Professional Videographers Association. Her background is in independent film, which influences her writing and production style. International credits include director/cinematographer on documentary One Frame at a Time, shot in Mae Sot on the Thai-Burma border, and cinematographer/editor for Coastal Television in Cape Coast, Ghana.
Back home in Vancouver, Canada, Jennifer founded UpperStory Films, where she and her partner have been creating compelling marketing videos for small businesses and nonprofits. In 2020, when everything changed for everyone, they had a baby during the pandemic.
With her family spread over Canada and the US, Jennifer figured she would naturally keep up with creating fun, meaningful baby videos to share. Instead she discovered sleep deprivation, contact napping and cluster feeding. She learned quickly how challenging it is to be a mom, never mind trying to film and edit the experience.
Jennifer’s experiences in film gave her a leg up in creating, organizing and editing her vast amount of baby footage, and she has written ebooks and created videos to help people with the same challenges.
She has pivoted UpperStory Films to focus on helping people rescue their abandoned videos and photos from old phones and forgotten cloud storage, and using them to create meaningful and lasting stories that can be shared and passed down through generations. Her mission is meaningful video storytelling for all.
